What Exactly Is Teppanyaki?

You may have heard of teppanyaki before at a Japanese restaurant, but do you know what exactly it is? Teppanyaki is a traditional Japanese way of preparing foods. The word translates literally to “grilling on an iron plate,” which is what you’ll see when you visit your favorite San Jose Japanese steakhouse. A teppanyaki chef will prepare meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetables on the grill right before your eyes. These ingredients are often combined with rice or noodles for a well rounded meal. Teppanyaki chefs are masters of their art, displaying impressive chopping skills and exciting tricks with fire on the grill itself.

The Basics of Sushi Etiquette

Sushi has become one of the most popular types of Japanese food in recent years because it is delicious, healthy, and fun to eat! Watch this video to learn about the basics of sushi etiquette.

At a Japanese restaurant, you and your dining companions may choose to order sake. It is customary to pour for others and not yourself. You should also have a small dish in which you can pour soy sauce. Many people like to add a bit of wasabi to the soy sauce and stir it around so that there is a little bit of heat in every bite.

The most important rule of sushi etiquette is to have fun! At House of Genji, we serve a variety of sushi and sashimi to please novice and expert sushi-eaters alike. Call us at (408) 453-8120 to learn more about our menu.
